The Creative Process of creating a Live Edge Wood table
It all began when I found the most beautiful live edge wood piece that resembled the shape of Vancouver Island. I saw potential for this piece, so I called up a friend and borrowed their sanding machine.
Once I got sanding, I began to see these intricate designs just below the surface. I was so excited and eager to keep on sanding for hours. Watching this piece unfold was quite miraculous.
With lots of love and care, these pieces came together. Attaching legs to the live edge wood turned them into the most lovely tables. I can’t wait for the day I experiment more with live edge!
Once I was happy with my sanding, I took my pieces to the beach to glaze them with mineral oil. The mineral oil is a safe option of varnish to make the colour pop. I enjoyed doing this by the ocean as I felt connected to the land and to what I was creating.
